E-mail Mr. Steussy here Hello, and welcome to my home page. Follow the buttons above to find out more about each of the classes I teach. Within each button you will find a calendar including major assignment deadlines, a curriculum describing my grading standards, and a list of resources. A word of note here regarding the "theme" of this web page is in order. It is not accidentally full of images of cars and racing. I love cars. I always have. I am particularly interested in vintage cars, vintage car competition and the like. When I was in high school I did not like history. I did not take any courses in history in college, and the professors of history that I have befriended at this point in my career report that it is not odd for a young undergraduate to come in with such a perception. "History" classes in high school are often uninspiring. I did, however, love old cars. I loved old movies. Within the science department of my Alma Mater I took the "History of Science" and was enthralled. In High School and in college I took the history of Art, and I embedded myself into the Philosophy Department largely because of my interest in the history of ideas. I had always loved history, I just hadn’t known it. In homage of one of my original interests in history I created this site rather obviously with some of the images I have always found fascinating from the history of motor sports. I do this with the hope that my students will realize that a love or passion of anything; music, dance, animation, technology… has within it an innate curiosity of the past. Discovering the past, how to discover the past and how to make sense of it, are the central element of my work in the classroom. The work will never be complete. There are no neat and simple answers. The voyage of discovery that I embark on every year with my students gets me closer to some understanding, invariably awakens more questions and I hope at least lays the groundwork for the student to continue the voyage in discovering just who, and why, we are.
